Many of us who are blessed enough to know how to sew, have been sewing face masks for family, friends, colleagues and essential workers. I love the idea of making more personalised, what some people call “fashion face masks”, in order to:
- Keep track of each family member’s masks;
- remember which masks have already been worn before washing again;
- add some personality to something we are going to wearing daily;
- have some fun experimenting with embellishments!
Making embellished, fashion face masks can be such a fun and creative process. I love that we can communicate a bit of who we are by wearing a fashion mask, despite the social distancing and half our faces being covered up!
I’ve categorised some of the fun ideas I’ve found online according to different fashion styles: Feminine, Glamorous, Mimimalist, Cute and Bohemian.
I hope these help fuel some ideas for you to create your unique fashion face masks!
Feminine Fashion Face Masks
Flowers, ruffles and lace can be added to soften the “bandit” look of face masks.
Glamorous Style
Adding sequins, beads and sparkly embellishments quickly turn a plain mask into something glamorous.
Minimalist Style
So as you may have guessed, minimalist and neutral is my personal style. Natural materials, Liberty prints and simple embroidery would make the perfect personalized mask for me. I have a lot of linen remnants from making clothes so this is just the perfect way to use them up!
Cute Fashion Face Masks
Perfect for kids (or kids at heart), these masks with bows, characters and flowers just gives me love heart eyes 😍. I know my little girls would LOVE a princess mask…more frills on it, the better!
Bohemian Style
Happy prints, tassels and lots of embroidery makes a personalized face mask for the free spirit! I made a batik mask and it really brightens up my day when I wear it.
Which fashion style do you identify with? Or maybe you have more ideas for embellishments to add to your mask?
