With the weather warming up, I’ve started to plan what I will make to wear in summer. This Japanese sewing book is called “Summer clothes in 1 day” and is perfect for a fast sewing projects using light and airy cotton fabrics.
White seems to be the colour of Summer 2013? I’m not one to follow the latest fashion trends, but I would most certainly wear this white maxi dress! You can also make the floral camisole on the right based on the same pattern.
I’ve wanted ruffled shorts like this for so long, so I’m going to have to make a pair now!
This top looks very easy but the detail on the back makes it a bit unique. Perfect to wear with skinny jeans.
This dress on the right is actually made of four pieces; one big back piece, one front piece in the centre and two side pieces. It might be fun to make a colour-block dress using different colours for the front pieces.
This book also includes easy accessories too. I think this is a great way to use up those fabric remnants.
In total there are more 28 clothing patterns to make, as well as accessories such as headbands, bags and scarves. This book is full of illustrations, so it would suit absolute beginners to sewing Japanese patterns. It is only available from Amazon Japan (link above). Check out this blog post on how to buy books from Amazon Japan if you need help.

My sister-in-law is back from a trip to Japan and she bought it! I’m waiting a little before I borrow it 😉 lol
Bisous
Oh that’s fantastic, there’s so many great designs in there that I didn’t get to feature on this blog post.
I’m also highly addicted to Japanese Sewing books, I already purchased three (and have three more on the way), the garments are very relaxed but still sophisticated. Japanese patterns reminds me of the garments sold on Anthropologie.com (another reason why I love them). I think I have to add this book to my collection!
Oh yeah, your point about Anthrpologie is so true! I love their relaxed, natural style.
[…] cute maternity and nursing top in a babydoll shape is from a Japanese sewing pattern book, Summer Clothes in One Day. It actually took me two days to finish. First day to cut the pattern, second day for […]
Ah, it is not in current print it in Japan. On Amazonjp, it is only available in used condition, and is thus not available to purchase internationally. Does anyone have a used copy they would like to sell to me? 🙂
Bummer! So many great books in Japan go out of print 🙁
I purchased a “used” copy on ebay and it was in pristine condition -its where I buy all my Japanese language pattern books (I don’t speak Japanese but I know how to read a pattern). There are so many great patterns in this edition just need more hours in the day.
Ooh that’s a great find! Had no idea you could get Japanese sewing books on eBay, thanks for the tip. Haha, so true – just need more than 24 hours in a day!
